Shannon Harris, MBA, RYT

Shannon is a Master’s level Social Work Intern. She is completing her degree at The University of Maryland School of Social Work and is in her Advanced Standing year. She will graduate in 2024. Shannon spent the last 14 years supporting behavioral health agencies through various administrative roles, which drives her passion for holistic and person-centered mental health care.

Treatment Approach

Shannon takes a person-centered and strengths-based approach while viewing clients through a trauma-informed lens. She incorporates several evidence-based modalities, including CBT and Motivational Interviewing. Shannon’s areas of expertise include working with individuals and families struggling with substance use disorders and severe mental illness, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. During her internship, Shannon will expand her repertoire to work with children, adolescents, and their families.

Education

Shannon earned her Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2016 from the University of Memphis and her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida in 2008. While earning her psychology degree, Shannon also completed a clinical internship at an outpatient substance use disorder clinic, where she worked as an intern counselor providing assessments for incoming patients. In 2022 Shannon began the Master of Social Work program at the University of Maryland. During her first year of the program, Shannon completed an internship with Help in the Home in Rockville, MD, where she was a Care Coordinator and provided case management services to individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness.
In addition to her academic degrees, Shannon is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) through the Yoga Alliance and has been teaching yoga since 2018.
